Marie de France

Not much is known about Marie de France’s personal life, but it is believed she was born in present-day France and lived in England in the 12th century. She was a poet who wrote in French about stories including famous characters such as Tristan and Isolde and King Arthur and Merlin. Her poems are fantastical and help us understand social values, gender norms, religion, and geography of the time.
