Malikah (ملكة) is credited with being the first Lebanese woman to be a successful MC. She has been rapping since 2003 and had a career boost from participating in the Arab hip hop talent-hunting show Hip HopNa (هيب هوبنا) for whom she performed the track Ya Imra2a on MTV Arabia. Malikah raps about women’s rights and Lebanese nationalism. She hopes her music can contribute towards emancipation of oppressed women and Arab nations alike. She performs with a harsh, ‘no-nonsense’ vocal style and adopts an aggressive comportment in her music videos which suggests agency and independence that refuses to be held down.
