About Malachai

Originally named Malakai, the Bristol-based duo, made up of Gee Ealey and Scott Hendy, released their first single Fading World in April 2007 under Invada Records, which was shortly followed by their major label debut EP 1 with Island records in september of that year, comprised of 6 songs. Their debut album Ugly Side of Love aired in the UK in February 2009, and was released worldwide in November, the same year. The band, newly signed to Domino Records, rebranded itself to Malachai and they reissued their debut album, over a year after its initial release, in April 2010. They later released their sophomore album, Return to the Ugly Side the following year, on February 22, 2011, which was followed by their final album, Beyond Ugly, which concluded the bands life.

The duo went their separate ways and have been working on their own solo projects; Scott has been working under the name Boca45 since the split, which he used for his solo work during the bands life and he has since released two albums. Gee pretty much quit music after the end of Malachai but has featured on a few of Scott’s new tracks. He also released a song under the name G, called Letting Go.

The band is a mix of styles; from 1960s psychedelic-pop to a Bristolian take on Hip-Hop. The experimentation of sound creates something new yet also reflects the late naughties and the time in which it was created.
