About Magpie

Magpie is an American folk music duo, comprised of Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner, and established in 1973 in Kent, Ohio. Over the years they have performed at most major folk festivals in the U.S. and Canada, and have toured the UK seven times. They perform an eclectic mix of musical styles and themes, from classic old time country, blues, and swing, to topical songs, both original and with many covers of other protest folk musicians.

In 1998, Magpie won the “Wammie” award as traditional folk duo of the year from the Washington Area Music Association.[4] They also received the 1999 Addy Award for their song Take Me Back to Harpers Ferry and their soundtrack for the video, which is on continuous play at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.

As musician activists,Terry and Greg are well-known for their work in support of grassroots political organizations, most notably environmental action organizations. They also work extensively with children and have recorded one CD of environmental songs for children, “Circle of Life.” They have released numerous other recordings as well, including two with fellow musicans, Kim and Reggie Harris.
