A Los Angeles-based rap artist & producer, Lykos has an extraordinary way of turning his sinister imagination into musical story telling. It is no wonder why we hear an eerie howl in the intro of every song made by “Lykos” – Greek for wolf.
Raised in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Lykos (born Rudy-Louis Brito) began writing music at the age of 12. With basketball always being at the forefront of his life, he recorded his first song at the age of 20. The next year, he began producing his own music. His influences include artists such as Kid Cudi & Lana Del Rey creating a sound of “alternative rap” with hints of haunting melodies & horror film.
His self narrative song called “Maasai” is the story behind Rudy’s alter-ego, Lykos. The song features an astounding entrance and beat of “adamu”- a traditional song done by the Maasai Tribe of Northern Tanzania, Africa. Within this song we learn of Lykos’ African heritage. Lykos likes to reminds us that just like his alter-ego he is a powerful being that is unstoppable, and is an Alpha who is rightfully claiming his throne.
Besides prompting us of his supernatural abilities, Lykos likes to remain true to who he is and creates what comes natural to him. This artist aims to inspire people to be okay with being themselves; to think differently and go against the grain. Although his music is not necessarily the melodies that you hear on the radio, he is going to continue making tunes that express how his mind works.
