Lorna Shore is an American deathcore/blackened deathcore band based in Warren County, New Jersey. The band is best known for the intricate riffs and complicated lyrics that characterize most parts of their discography. The current formation includes lead vocalist Will Ramos, guitarists Adam De Micco and Andrew O'Connor, bassist Michael Yager and drummer Austin Archey.
Lorna Shore first formed in 2010, as De Micco was originally joined by Ray Meoni, Aaron Brown, Jeff Moskovciak, Gary Herrera and Scott Cooper. After just a few months, however, Tom Barber joined Lorna Shore as their new vocalist, after bassist Gary Herrera had seen him perform in a local New Jersey Mall and had invited him to try out for the band at one of their practices.
From there, while going through several member changes, the band went on to record three EPs – Triumph in 2010, Bone Kingdom in 2012, and Maleficium in 2013 – and two full-length albums – Psalms in 2015 and Flesh Coffin in 2017.
At the start of 2018, both Barber and Herrera – who was the only founding member left at the time – left the group: the former joined Chelsea Grin as a replacement for Alex Koehler; on the other hand, Herrera cited his growing disillusion with the music as the main reason of his departure. A few months after, it was announced that former Signs Of The Swarm vocalist CJ McCreery would replace Barber as the Lorna Shore frontman, while guitarist Connor Deffley – who had originally signed up in 2015 – would take over Herrera’s place as a bassist, as well. On Sept. 7th, 2018, Lorna Shore released their first single with McCreery, titled “This Is Hell,” which received widespread critical acclaim.
On December 23, 2019, the band abruptly fired McCreery after a string of abuse and sexual misconduct allegations involving him surfaced. In response to this, the band initially announced both the cancellation of an upcoming tour in Asia and the delayed release of their third studio album, Immortal, which was entirely recorded with McCreery. However, these claims were later retracted: the album was eventually released on the originally planned date of January 31, 2020, while the band also announced the temporary appointment of Will Ramos as their new vocalist for tour dates. In the end, all further activity was cut short as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On June 11, 2021, the band officially announced Ramos as their new permanent vocalist and debuted a new single, titled “To the Hellfire,” which was also the first anticipation of their fourth EP, …And I Return to Nothingness – released on August 13 of the same year. “To The Hellfire” received widespread public and critical acclaim within the metal community, mostly due to its rhytmic composition and Ramos' stand-out performance.
On April 29, 2022, during a concert, the band debuted a new song, “Sun//Eater,” which would eventually get an official release on May 13 and served as the lead single from the band’s fourth LP, titled Pain Remains and slated for October of the same year. The album was further anticipated by another single, “Into The Earth,” released on June 22, 2022. The third single of the album, “Cursed To Die,” was released on July 27, showcasing a slightly lower and more melodic sound, but still including the heaviness of the last two singles. The album’s closer and title track was released as the fourth and final single, with its three movements being shared one by one between September and October of the same year. The LP as a whole was then released on October 14.
