Lonnie Donegan was one of the first British artists to chart in the US. He was one of the most famous artists to create Skiffle, a do-it-yourself acoustic genre based on American folk of the 1920s-1940s. Skiffle and Lonnie Donegan were cast out of the spotlight by the Beatles in the early 1960s, and were never able to overcome rock and roll again.
