Liza May Minnelli, born 12th March 1946 to Judy Garland and father Vincente Minnelli, is an American singer, actress and dancer. She began her career at the age of 16 in 1963 starring in off-Broadway musicals – a mere two years later she starred in her first tony award winning Broadway musical ‘Flora The Red Menace’, with songs and lyrics written by her long term friends and collaborators Fred Ebb and John Kander at age 19, becoming the youngest actress to win the Lead Actress in a Musical award. Over the next couple of years she built her career and eventually starred in the film adaptation of the musical ‘Cabaret’ directed by Bob Fosse and with songs and lyrics again written by Kander and Ebb – this pushed her into superstar status and she became a cultural icon of the 70s.
through the 60s and 70s she released multiple studio albums, often to mediocre success, under A&M, Capitol and Columbia records. In 1989 she finally won a nomination for a non competitive Grammy and completed her EGOT crown of entertainment.
