Singer/songwriter Lisa Fischer was primarily known as one of Luther Vandross' background vocalists until her own debut album So Intense broke through with the Grammy-winning #1 R&B hit “How Can I Ease The Pain.”
Record label politics and creative frustrations lead Fischer to walk away from solo performing before a sophomore album could be released. However, she remained active as a scene-stealing support vocalist touring with the likes of Tina Turner, Sting, and even The Rolling Stones.
Fischer found herself in the spotlight again in 2013, this time ironically for being out of it. She was featured in the Oscar- and Grammy-winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom telling the stories of four background singers who have eschewed fame (or had it elude them) despite their outsized talent.
