About Lila Deneken

Born in Mexico City she first started her artistic life in 1966 as part of the group called “Los Peg”, whose other members included Jose Jose (base player) and her sister Gilda Deneken (vocalist). Los Peg were known for interpreting Jazz and Bossa Nova music styles. This style would inevitably become her first style of music. After incorporating other music genres such as Soul, Music Rock and others, she decides to embark on her first international tour and be joined by her sister Gilda. Touring under the name “Las Deneken” the 3 month tour soon turned into a full year due to their great success. Upon her return, in 1972 she joins the musical group “Tabasco” with her other sister Lupita Deneken and for the first time in history the three sisters sing together.

Soon after “Tabasco” is discovered by manager Tony De Marco who takes them on a tour across the United States of America. Due to its instant success the tour extends for a period of several years. It is precisely during this time that she decides to separate herself from the group. It is only after she becomes a solo artist that she is recognized and called “La numero Uno” “or "The Number One”.

In 1978 she attends the OTI festival obtaining 2nd place with the song “Cuando Pienso en Ti” written by Nacho Mendez and 1st place for the best interpreter of the OTI festival. She also is granted with the “premio a la Revelacion”, which is granted to her again in 1980 when she is considered for the second time the best interpreter of the OTI festival and winning 2nd place with the song “Se solicita una aventura” written by Roberto Cantoral. She is best known, however, for the song “Por Cobardia”, composed by Bebu Silvetti; it is this song that puts her on the top of every playlist at that time. [ [

Upon her return back to Mexico she continued to amaze and sell-out concerts with her famous Las Vegas style shows.

In 2001, she decides to regain her career as singer and performs 4 concerts in the “Foro Cultural Coyoacanense Hugo Arguelles”, where she debuts a newer style as music as well as performing some of her best known songs.

In October 2001 she contracts the “Ramiro Jimenez” theater in Mexico City where she ratifies her success on stage showing the public once again her quality as an artist.
