Diego Macias (Born June 19, 2004) also known as “Lil Maru” is a Mexican-American hip hop artist based in San Diego, CA.

Tactically breaking into stardom, Maru has collaborated with many other artists on the rise. This includes Lil Weirdo, 22Gfay, Hardini, KMob Angel, Moneysign $uede, Young Rich, King Papa, YB4L, and more.

Lil Maru’s journey into the music world began at an early age. His musical influences included The Beatles, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Drake, and Future.

He also recalls growing up with a strong admiration for the King of Pop– Michael Jackson. Being captivated and inspired by the infectious melodies Maru took on producing beats in middle school. That same year, Maru coined his stage name from a classmate who compared him to the infamous Naruto character “Shikamaru”.

He then went on to study the creative process and found his staple sound. After snippets of his unreleased music generated a sizable buzz, Maru decided he’d turn the page and devote himself to his artistry.
His success story begins in 2020 after several collaborative and independent tracks were highly-streamed and shared beyond his hometown.

With virtually no presence on the app, his single “Change Up” swiftly became a viral sensation in the summer/ fall of 2021. Though the song remains his most successful track to date, Maru encourages new listeners to tune into “Would You” as it displays both his sonic and lyrical abilities.

By the end of 2021, Maru officially went on to sign with the American record label Simple Stupid Records (an imprint of the label Geffen Records). He has placed in the top 8,000 artists in the country and has surpassed 10 million cumulative views across YouTube.

In the future, Maru plans on acquiring success in the industry, continuing to build his brand as an artist, collaborating with notable creatives, becoming the ultimate provider for those who have aided in his achievements thus far, and keeping his musical legacy alive and thriving.
