Lillian Hardin is known as a jazz composer, singer, and pianist: born in 1898, she lived in Memphis, Tennessee with her grandmother, a former slave. After graduating from Fisk University in Nashville, she moved to Chicago, and began a career in music. She was married to jazz musician Louis Armstrong from 1924-1938, during which time she was part of his Hot Five group, and they collaborated on many works.

Lillian Hardin Armstrong (née Hardin; February 3, 1898 - August 27, 1971) was a jazz pianist, composer, arranger, singer, and bandleader. She was the second wife of Louis Armstrong, with whom she collaborated on many recordings in the 1920s.
