Li Po (李白) (701-762) is considered one of the greatest poets in Chinese history. In some 1,000 poems known to survive, he addresses subjects as diverse as nature, friendship, romance, wine, and war. His life also gave rise to legendary stories about his drunken carousing and hard living. Contrary to popular belief, he did not die as a result of drowning after leaning out of his boat to embrace the reflection of the moon in the Yangtze River.
