About Leo “Bud” Welch

Leo “Bud” Welch is a deceased Mississippi native delta bluesman who spent his life honing his musical craft as a gospel singer and songwriter.

Born and raised in the hill country of Central Mississippi, Welch worked as a cotton picker and pulpwood tree logger for the majority of his life.

He learned to play guitar and sing at an early age, but was content to perform his gospel songs exclusively on Sunday mornings during worship service and the occasional blues set at clubs and juke joints.

In the fall of 2016, Welch was introduced to Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys who invited him to his studio, Easy Eye Sound, in Nashville to write and record his final LP, The Angels In Heaven Done Signed My Name with Auerbach’s band The Arcs.
