Kumisolo is the stage name of singer Kumi Okamoto. Though she has lived in Paris for years, she was born in Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo, Japan. In addition to her career as a singer, she is a composer, a film director and a member of the girl group The Konki Duet.
She was introduced to music at 3 years old, accompanying her mother to taiko concerts and dance clubs. She began piano lessons at age 7 and started to play trumpet in her school band at age 9, eventually leading the brass section of her high school band.
Shortly after, she took her first steps as a pop singer, performing in a band that covered songs by The Cardigans. After forming her first pop band, Crazy Curl, she moved to Paris and founded The Konki Duet with Zoe Wolf.
