Pioneer of the Berlin-School of electronic music, alongside Tangerine Dream.
Klaus Schulze’s musical career began in 1969 as the drummer on Tangerine Dream’s Electronic Meditation. He left in 1970 to form Ash Ra Tempel with Manuel Göttsching and Harmut Enke, again leaving after only a single album to start his prolific solo career. Over the course of his career, he produced over 50 albums, largely based around synthesizers and sequenced rhythms; highlights of his discography are Timewind, Mirage, “X”, and Audentity, among many others. His final album was Deus Arrakis, released 3 months after his death in April 2022.
While most of his albums are purely instrumental, he has collaborated with vocalists such as Arthur Brown and Lisa Gerrard on several releases.
