‘Khumariyaan’, literally translates to ‘intoxicated’ – a term coined by their ardent fans, derived from a famous folk song where someone calls for everyone to gather because the intoxicated have arrived to make you groove to their sounds.
Since they formed in 2006 while they were students of the University of Peshawar, bandmates: Farhan Bogra, Aamer Shafiq, Shiraz Khan and Sparlay Rawail have maintained even their stage positions for more than a decade of being an inseparable crew of four. Creating world music using Rabab, Peshawari Sehtar, guitars and percussion – the band aims to be the bridge between the traditional listener and the modern Pushtun youth.
The hyper-folk Peshwari jams have worked particularly well for the international audience. The ensemble has entertained crowds at during tours in USA, at SXSW (2015) and The Alchemy Festival in London (2017).
