Inspired by Stevie Wonder and Martin Gaye, Los Angleles based singer/songwriter, Khamari is making his way up into the music industry. Although he is located in Los Angeles, he grew up in Dorchester, South Downtown Boston. His music career begin before he went off to study in Berklee School of Music eventually dropping out. He already had a grasp of instruments; from the piano and guitar to the French horn.
His song-writing is rooted with R&B elements as he is passionate about bringing about elements of Soul and Hip-Hop. His debut single, ‘Jealous’ was released in June 2020, introducing the world to Khamari’s intimate and acoustic-led tones. It was then followed up with ‘That Girl’ right before the release of his first debut EP, Eldorado released in October 2020.
Doctor, My Eyes was one of Khamari’s songs inspired by Jackson Browne that gained a large audience and appreciation for Khamari’s artistic style. His portrayal of emotional self-introspection and one’s ability to manoeuvre through change was relatable. He discusses the themes of relationships and his experience of moving from Boston to L.A. He then released singles in 2022. ‘Tell Me’ stood out from the group of released singles, receiving more than a million listens on Spotify.
The teaser of ‘A Brief Nirvana’ was released on the 15th of April 2023 confirming that it will be released on the 26th of May 2023. It features the singles that were released in 2022 and some that were released the same year as the album. Although Khamari is constantly compared by artists such as Mac Miller, Frank Ocean and Leon Bridges, he definitely is making an identity of his own in the music industry.
