About Kevn Kinney

Kevn Kinney is the lead singer of Southern hard rock band Drivin' N' Cryin', which broke onto the scene in the 80s and 90s when Athens, Georgia was the epicenter of alternative rock, hosting other popular bands like R.E.M. and Neutral Milk Hotel.

A Milluakee native, Kinney started Drivin' N' Cryin' after moving to Atlanta in 1985. After spending about six years as a staple of Atlanta’s underground rock scene, they broke onto the national charts with their album Fly Me Courageous, which addressed the Gulf War that was going on at the time. The band has since released 10 albums and and 6 EPs, and still continue to make music and perform locally to this day.

Kinney has also released collaborations with members of R.E.M., The Golden Palominos and various artists from the roots rock and jam band scenes.

Kinney’s beautiful, high-energy, treble-gnashing vocals can be described as sounding like they’ve been marinated in gallons of whiskey and cigarettes. He is also known for profound lyricism and affinity for bowling shirts, and has remained a regional favorite in both Atlanta and Athens, where you can probably see him around every once in a while.
