Kevin Woo (우성현; Woo Sunghyun) was born in Danville, California on November 25, 1991, to Korean immigrant parents; his family of four consisted of his father, who was a CF director, mother, who was a fashion model, and his older sister. His paternal uncle is also in the industry and is Emmanuel Wu—a famous Korean German actor and classical singer.
At the age of 15, he was discovered at auditions for XING Entertainment while on vacation in South Korea. He was accepted as a trainee at the company and moved permanently to the country with his mother. He made his debut as a first-generation member of the boy group XING in December of 2006 after only a few months of training but left the group, as well as XING Entertainment, in 2008. He then signed a contract with NH Media and re-debuted in the group U-KISS in August of 2008. Woo would stay with the group up until the end of his contract with the company in March of 2017 but would continue to promote with the group until mid-April.
During his time in U-KISS, he expanded his career, adding acting, being a TV show host and also debuted as a member of U-KISS’s subunit group uBEAT and was known as the main vocalist of both groups.
After leaving NH Media, Woo later signed a contract with Coridel Entertainment and is now focusing on a solo career in his home country in the United States. He had his first mini-concert in the US with L.A. based American band FYKE, and fellow Kpop singer James JH Lee; two concerts were held in California—one in L.A. and one in San Francisco.
Woo is multilingual and can speak English, Korean, and Japanese.
