About Kermit the Frog

Kermit the Frog is a character created by American puppeteer Jim Henson. Introduced in 1955 and performed by Henson until his death in 1990, Kermit is depicted as an everyman character, leading the rest of the Muppets while trying to rein in their various antics. Henson’s son described the character as “coming out of [Henson’s] own personality – a wry intelligence, a little bit of a naughtiness, but Kermit always loved everyone around and also loved a good prank.” This characterization resulted in Kermit becoming one of Henson’s most famous characters next to his Sesame Street co-star Elmo, and he remains the mascot for the Muppet franchise and a pop culture staple worldwide.
