Kelsey Ferrell, otherwise known by her fitting moniker, Feral, released her album, Trauma Portfolio, while she was attending UC Berkeley. It sat on the internet for a few years until Ferrell joined TikTok and made a video that changed her life. The 60 second backstory to her song Fuck the Bourgeoisie blew up immediately, sending viewers to Spotify in droves to stream it. In the following months, Fuck the Bourgeoisie was placed on over 30,000 playlists and algorithmically won a spot on Discover Weekly, snowballing Ferrell’s success. In 2021, she released 3 singles, a music video, and went viral several more times for music and stand up comedy. Ferrell’s songs are filled with zingers, honesty, and vulnerability as they blend social ills with personal heartbreak. Like a Liz Phair protege, Ferrell encapsulates Gen Z angst with cutting words, moody guitar, and anxious energy. She currently is in pursuit of her MFA in Creative Writing at UC Riverside.
