Originally born Zelma Kathryn Hedrick, Kathryn Grayson (1922-2010) was an operatically trained soprano who found her greatest fame working in musical films. Discovered at a music festival by an MGM talent scout in 1940, she gained fame starring in such films as Thousands Cheer, Anchors Aweigh, the 1951 version of Show Boat, and Kiss Me Kate. When musical films declined, she did work on Broadway and the operatic stage.
