Kate Miller-Heidke is an Australian singer-songwriter originally from Brisbane, Queensland and now based in Melbourne, Victoria. She was signed to Sony Music Australia for the release of her first three studio albums before becoming independent in 2013. Her subsequent and most recent album, O Vertigo! was funded primarily through crowd sourcing. She remains independent and unsigned.
Following the completion of a Bachelor of Music specialising in Classical Voice at Griffith University (QLD) and a Master of Music (QUT), she found success as a classical musician, winning several awards from 2000 to 2002. In 2004, Miller-Heidke independently recorded and distributed her first EP, Telegram, and another EP was released in 2005, Comikaze. Although classically trained, she has focused career in alternative pop music, and more recently, co-wrote the score to Muriel’s Wedding The Musical alongside her long-term collaborator Keir Nuttall. She is the only person to have sung at Coachella, the New York Metropolitan Opera, and Eurovision.
