Amir Rashad, known professionally as Kafani, is a rapper from Oakland, California. He emerged as a notable figure in the mid 2000s Hyphy scene upon the release of his 2007 single Fast Like a Nascar, featuring fellow Oakland rapper Keak da Sneak.
Years later in 2013, Kafani again gained attention for being shot 5 times and killed in the Seminary neighborhood of Oakland, California, before being miraculously brought back to life by paramedics shortly afterwards. The shooting’s motive is largely seen as a result of Kafani going to Seminary with the specific purpose of recording a music video for a diss track in which he goes at Oakland rapper and Seminary native Philthy Rich.
