Julianna Barwick is a Brooklyn-based ambient/ethereal musician that uses her dreamy, tense, church-choir-like vocals to create a soothing, transcendental experience.
“I remember doing it as a kid, and I still do it all the time: finding places where singing is really fun and pretty, like parking garages, auditoriums and laughing and looping them with my FX pedal, and basically trying to make it sound the way it sounds when I’m in a place like that.”
Her career began in 2006 with the self-released EP Sanguine that determined her unique style and niche in the ambient/ethereal scene. The first full-length album “The magic place” came out in 2011 and received “best new music” status from pitchfork with 8.5 score; it was later included in their list of top 50 ambient albums of all time. She released two albums afterward and is still actively making music / touring the world.
