Joyce Berry is a retired blue-eyed soul-flavored pop singer and backing vocalist from North Dakota who cut her first record, “Never Be Discouraged” as a disco hit from 1978, released on the West End record label, written by the late Walter Kahn, Andy Kahn & Helen Rice. AllMusic critic Steve Leggett noted Berry’s “naturally smoky low alto vocal style”, describing her as an “Unabashedly easy-on-the-ears blue-eyed soul/pop singer and backing vocalist” especially when she in 1981 covered Manfred Mann’s Earth Band’s 1976 one-hit wonder, “Blinded By The Light” in a pop/soul/disco style from her MCA Records debut album, “Sunrise” by singing it lower than Christopher Hamlet Thompson from that group.
