José Cid (4 February 1942, Chamusca, Portugal) is a Portuguese singer and composer best known for his album “10,000 anos depois entre Vénus e Marte” (1978), which is considered one of the best progressive rock albums of all time.
In 1956, Cid starts his musical career in a covers band, Os Babies. In the 1960’s he stands out as a keyboardist and vocalist for Quarteto 1111. In 1971, Cid releases his first solo album, “José Cid”, although he remains with Quarteto 1111.
In 1980 he gets the trophy of that year “Festival RTP da Canção”, the Portuguese national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, and represents his country with “Um grande, grande amor”.
After more than 60 years, Cid is one of the most recognized musicians in Portugal. In 2019 he was awarded a Latin Grammy for Musical Excellence.
