In late 2019, after 3 records and 10 successful radio singles with the band Unspoken, Jon began focusing on producing a project of his own. He produced, played and sang every part of the new EP “Children of Eden” in his home studio. “More out of time and financial constraints than anything else. Plus it let me play all the instruments I don’t normally get to play with Unspoken. And I didn’t know where I could hire a Jaw Harp player anyway.”
“I wanted each song on this EP, Children of Eden, to follow the progression of my conversion experience. TiII You’re Looking Back is a sort of preface and synopsis for the EP on how our spiritual growth is organic in that you can’t watch it happening in real time, you can only look back on what has happened and be amazed at the grace of God. Pretty Good Company is the realization that I’m really way more evil than I dreamed I could be which then leads to the realization of the need to repent and be washed clean in the song Come to The River. I wanted to express the joy of the revelation that I am free and loved more than I could ever possibly hope in Half the Man I Used To Be and finally finish with the song The Source. The fact that no matter how much good I do, how great a husband or father I am, how many successful songs I write, that goodness and creativity all flows from the pen that never runs dry and to which I owe everything."
