Jokke & Valentinerne were a Norwegian trio, and is considered one of the big four bands of Norwegian rock, with the only consistent members from their formation in 1982 to their breakup in 1994 being front man Joachim Nielsen and drummer May-Irene Aasen.
The band started primarily as a punk band, before adding more and more classic rock elements into their sound with each album. Their lyrics tend to combine social realism and dark humor to describe life in the gutter, and all the vises and mental problems that comes with that.
After the band broke up, Joachim would go on to form a sequel band of-sorts, named Jokke med Tourettes. After Joachim’s death to a heroin overdose in the year 2000, the surviving members of Valentinerne and Tourettes joined forces to create the tribute band Valentourettes, performing songs from both bands.
