Juan Antonio Ortiz, better known as Johnny O (not to be confused with the Canadian singer who went by the same name), is a Puerto Rican freestyle pop singer. Johnny O is most known for his songs “Fantasy Girl” and “Highways of Love” off his debut album Johnny O.. He is lauded as “The King of Freestyle” by himself and critics.
Johnny O was born in Brooklyn, New York, and in his youth, was a singer in his church’s choir. In 1988, he came into contact with Mic Mac Records, who his uncle DJ’d for, and after an audition, the label wanted to sign him. That same year, Johnny O released his hit song “Fantasy Girl”, which sold over 100,000 copies in just its first month. The track was featured on his self-titled album the following year, and sparked international tours. Since then, Johnny O has released five other albums, but is primarily active on his YouTube channel.
