His father, Country Johnny Mathis, was a successful singer and BMI Award Winning songwriter, having 12 Country Music Hall of Fame inductees record his songs and artists ranging from George Jones to Elvis Costello. This made songwriting and music publishing a natural transition and passion for John Jr.

A Dove Award-nominated songwriter and music publisher, John Jr has had songs on Billboard charting and Apple Music charting albums, Christian Music charts, and Dove Award-nominated albums and singles. His publishing company (Avid Group Publishing/BMI) secures song placements in documentaries and TV shows such as CBS’s ‘Young Sheldon’ and national TV commercials with songs being recorded by artists like GRAMMY Winner & Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Charley Pride and many others.

John’s life and music pursuits have given him more than 20 years of experience in the music industry. During his career, John has had the opportunity to work with artists across many genres, from Christian Music to Country Music and the Spanish language market. His work in the the music business covers more than songwriting and music publishing; his experience includes radio promotion, publicity, A&R, audio/video production, distribution, digital management, artist consultation and record label management.
