About John Donner

John Blake Donner (September 7, 1980 – August 18, 2005) was an American vocalist best known for his work with Provo-based hardcore punk band Parallax.

Parallax was formed by Donner, Charles Bogus, Mike Collins, Travis Low, and Elliot Secrist in the late 1990’s and was active until 2006. Their first release was the On Dead Tracks EP, released in 2004 with their debut album, Widely Unknown Indeed!, releasing later that year.

Donner was in his third year of studies at the Utah Valley State College, intending to major in English and Philosophy, when he passed away at the age of 24. He was swimming in a cave pool with three friends: 18-year-old Ariel Singer, 21-year-old Jennifer Galbraith, and 28-year-old Scott McDonald. All 4 would drown in a tunnel connecting the cave pool to an entrance along the Y mountain in Provo, Utah on August 18, 2005.

A memorial was held for Donner at the Learning Center of Utah Valley State College on August 23, 2005 and the band released their second and final album, Mediums & Messages, on April 14, 2006.
