About Joe Meek

One of the most visionary and influential producers of all time, Joe Meek (1929-1967) personally oversaw the production and engineering of scores of English singles from a recording studio operated out of his apartment in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

His most famous single, “Telstar,” was the first British song to top the charts in both the US and UK. That song gives a small glimpse into the process and futuristic “Meek sound” that distinguishes the records he made: a blend of pre-Beatles pop with futuristic and experimental sonic effects.
