Joaquín Rodrigo Vidre (1901-1999) was born in Valencia and went blind from diphtheria at age 3. For his entire career, he wrote his music in Braille and had it transcribed into conventional notation. In recognition of his work for Spanish music, he was made the first Marquis of the Gardens of Aranjuez in 1991.
