Starting out as a high school rapper in late 2014, Samuel Jenkins Owusu-Duodu developed a decent flair for rhymes and a strong affinity for rap music. However, finding appropriate beats online that would fit his vision and style posed a challenge for the young artist then and he would always find himself intrigued by the works of his idol beat makers on Instagram and SoundCloud. After graduating high school in May 2017 and being heavily inspired by top hip hop/trap producers Lexyz, Fortune Dane, Metro Boomin and WondaGurl, Jenkins immediately took to making beats and vocal engineering to explore for himself how all the magic is made. He would then work every day of the long summer vacation in the beat making application FL Studio trying to hone his skills and perfect his craft. Soon, he developed a great bond for producing music and decided to discontinue being a rapper.
As reflects in his works, Jenkins is majorly inspired by dark, emotional, ambient sounds accompanied with hard and heavy low end bass. It is this signature of his beats, along with his nocturnal work ethic, that made his first year college roommate bestow upon him the title ‘the Dark Lord himself’ as he was always found up all night working on hard, dark & sinister beats.
Jenkins’ sound concept has garnered the attention of various artists enough to want to work with him and has earned him notable production credits with such promising acts as Jay Cliff, Bryan The Mensah, Spacely & Nxwrth of La Meme Gang, as well as Hannes OF, Yung Pabi, McRay and Ayande among many others on the underground landscape. Jenkins has locally and gradually gained decent repute for his solid works and is still working diligently in a bid to internationally cement his name as the go-to producer on the hip hop/trap scene.
