Famed for his large nose and even nicknamed “the Schnozzola,” Jimmy Durante (1893-1980) was a famous comedian, singer, pianist, and actor. After starting in vaudeville and recording a novelty hit in 1934 entitled “Inka Dinka Doo,” Durante divided his time between Broadway, Hollywood, and radio. He signed off all his radio programs, “Good night, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are!” The precise meaning of this signature phrase was never determined.
