Jesse L. Martin (born January 18th, 1969) is an African-American actor known for originating the role of Tom Collins, the anarchist philosophy teacher, and love interest of the drag-queen Angel, in Jonathan Larson’s musical Rent. He also played Detective Ed Green for nine years on Law & Order, and has appeared in numerous Shakespeare in the Park productions.
