Jeffrey James Logan (born May 7, 1978), better known by his stage name Jel, is an Oakland Bay Area-based, Arlington Heights, Illinois native underground hip hop producer and rapper.
He is co-founder of the record label Anticon, and has been a member of Presage, Themselves, Subtle, 13 & God, and Peeping Tom, 1200 Hobos, among the others.
Jel started making beats in 1994 using an Akai SP-1200. A few years later, while attending art school at Northwestern University, he met Cincinnati rapper Doseone (another future Anticon founding member) through his friend and radio partner Kevin Beacham. In 1996 he quit the art school and started his music career, releasing his first production in 1998 (Doseone’s “2 Ton Can Of Wupass” and “Etherial Downtime”) and his first solo album, 10 Seconds, in 2002.
