While fronting the Belgium alt rock band Arid, Jasper Steverlinck released his first solo single, a cover of David Bowie’s “Life On Mars”, in 2002. It topped the chart in Belgium for eight weeks.
The track was later included on his first solo effort Songs Of Innocence, which topped the Belgium Albums Chart in May 2004. That summer he also had a minor hit with his cover of the Terence Trent D'Arby song “Let Her Down Easy”, accompanied by pianist Steven Kolacny. Two more tracks from Songs Of Innocence were minor hits in late 2004 and early 2005.
After the release of Arid’s third album, Steverlinck participated in Arjen Anthony Lucassen’s side project Guilt Machine in 2009.
Steverlinck was a judge for two seasons on the Belgian reality show The Voice van Vlaanderen (2011-2013). Between seasons of the show, he moved on from Arid to a full-time solo career. His single “Things That I Should Have Done” almost reached the Belgium Top 40 in late 2015.
In 2017, the five-song Uncut EP arrived and two of its songs reached the top 30. All five songs showed up on 2018’s chart-topping full-length Night Prayer.
