James T. Huy, mainly known as Jamie Drastik, is an American rapper, songwriter and record producer from Poughkeepsie, New York who is formerly signed to Pitbull’s Mr. 305 Records.
Jamie Drastik gained major attention by working with music heavyweights such as Pitbull, Kelly Rowland, Flo Rida, DJ Frank E, Lil Jon, Fat Joe and many other heavyweights.
The New York rapper has been praised by Diddy, Fat Joe, Pitbull and Jadakiss.
He has reached independent success at radio with records like “Now or Later” and “Boom I Got Your Girlfriend”.
In 2010, Jamie Drastik released his major label debut project, The Magnet, featuring guest appearances from Justin Timberlake, Fabolous, David Rush, Big Ali, ATM, Lil Jon and R3. It also features production from The Crew, Justin Timberlake, Danja, Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter, Drumma Boy, Rob Knox and many other producers. After the mixtape’s release, it became certified as one of the top ten mixtapes of 2010 ranking at #9 and even landed spots on 50 Cent’s community website Thisis50 and Music Choice.
Later that year, Jamie started recording two records for Pitbull, one of which for the Planet Pit album. Also during that year, Jamie started recording and writing songs for his next mixtape.
In 2011, Jamie released his second mixtape, Champagne And Cocaine, featuring guest appearances from ATM, Pitbull, Noel Gallagher, A. Lewins, Fat Joe and David Rush. The mixtape contains the wildly popular single “Save Me” featuring Pitbull and Noel Gallagher. The mixtape also features production from The Crew, Danja, Timbaland, Daft Punk, The PROdeuces, Jamie Drastik and many other producers. Jamie landed a spot on Pitbull’s Planet Pit world tour in order to promote his second mixtape by performing “Save Me” live in front of many fans all around the world.
Later that year, Jamie Drastik announced that he landed a guest spot on Pitbull’s Planet Pit album, appearing on the track “Castle Made of Sand” with singer Kelly Rowland, formerly of Destiny’s Child. Kelly sings the hook, while Jamie spits a verse. Eventually, Pitbull released a promotional video for “Castle Made of Sand” which features cameos from George Lopez, LMFAO’s Sky Blu, Lil Jon, Pharrell Williams, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jamie himself.
Also during that year, Jamie started recording and writing songs for his next mixtape, and included one of the songs in his web series, All Day, which premiered on August 24, 2011.
A month before the mixtape’s release, Jamie announced it would be released on New Year’s Eve. He also released a video for the title track of the mixtape to promote it. On New Year’s Eve 2011, Jamie released his third mixtape, September, featuring guest appearances from Gotye, Kimbra, Dayson and R3. It also contains his hit song “Sun Comes Up” which happens to be Jamie’s favorite track on the mixtape. He even performed the song at a Gym Class Heroes show.
The next year, Jamie released a new single titled “Chasing Shadows” featuring Pitbull and Havana Brown. It was co-written by Jamie, Pitbull, Kinetics and One Love.
Later that year, Jamie announced that he landed a guest spot on Duane Harden’s debut studio album, #NB4U (Naked Before You), appearing on the track “Dying Inside” with Sony recording artist Timomatic. It was produced by Moises Modesto, William Gallego and Jay Dahbi, it was written by Duane, Timomatic, Jamie, Moises and Jay and features Jamie spitting a couple verses and Timomatic sings the hook and bridge.
Eventually, Jamie announced that he would be releasing his first studio album, Jump The Decision, on New Year’s Eve 2014, and even released a trailer for the album and the official video to the title track. This album has been years in the making. Jamie started working on the album in 2011 as shown in his web series. He is seen recording one of the songs to the album, “Starts With A Hello”. The album was released exclusively to iTunes and on CD. Three months later, Jamie released his sophomore effort, Jump The Takeoff, which contains the single “My Day”. Jamie has made videos for the songs “My Day”, “About Me”, and “Bikes at Night”. His contract with Pitbull eventually ended and then started releasing music by himself.
