James Carr (Coahoma, Mississippi, June 13, 1942 – Memphis, Tennessee, January 7, 2001) was an American rhythm & blues and soul singer. His career was marked by his mental illness (bipolar disorder), which is why he did not achieve the levels of popularity of contemporaries such as Otis Redding or Solomon Burke; However, many of his recordings are still considered unique today.
