Jaap Eggermont is a Dutch producer who got his start in the music business as the drummer of Golden Earring (when they were known as Golden Earrings). He moved on to producing several Dutch acts throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
But Eggermont is best remembered for helming Stars On 45, a project he was hired to do that re-created several 1960s hits over a disco beat. That project’s 1981 debut single “Stars On 45” was an international smash hit and kicked off the early 80s medley craze with copycats like “Hooked on Classics” (by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), “The Beach Boys Medley”, and “The Beatles' Movie Medley”.
Stars On 45 had continued success with “More Stars” and “Stars On 45 III”, but by 1983 the craze was largely over (until 1989’s “Swing The Mood” by Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers brought it back).
