Daughter of a Venezuelan mother and German Musician father, 24 year old Ivohe (Ruby to friends) was born and raised in Berlin but due to also spending portions of her childhood in Venezuela, she naturally became adept in both languages, as well as English.
The name ‘Ivohe’ means ‘Ocean of Ours’ and was bestowed on Ruby by her Mother after Ruby’s Grandmother read about the name in an old Venezuelan legend.
Her vessel for songwriting was a gift from her Father who from an early age taught her the piano, and impressing upon her the exquisite melancholic compositions of Chopin, the stoic discipline of Bach, and the tortured magnitude of Beethoven.
At 17, she was struck one morning by the strange beginnings of the painfully dissociative condition ‘Derealisation’. The condition paralyses the ability to comprehend reality in opposition to a dream, it saturates life of colour and spontaneity due to the constant analysing of why such feelings suddenly exist. The condition lead to an onset of anxiety and depression, which could only be combated by transference into songs and performance.
The anonymity of the stage and unburdening of the condition was cathartic and for her 18th birthday Ivohe’s mother gave her the gift of a trip to London which was the perfect catalyst to realise the potential of years of work. Naturally welcomed by East London’s eclectic music scene, Ivohe had the great fortune to meet visionary rapper and producer Henny Knightz, with whom she would produce several works and dedicate her forthcoming EP to. After establishing herself in London she took her networking experience back home to Berlin to concrete a following.
