Isis was an American post-metal band hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. The band was formed in late 1997 and helped evolve a brand of heavy metal pioneered by Neurosis and Godflesh that focuses on repetition and evolution. They split up in 2010.
Guitarist and vocalist Aaron Turner has explained:
Isis formed as a result of the dissatisfaction with past bands of the founding members. None of us were happy with what we were doing musically at the time.
