Ian Urbina is an investigative reporter who writes most often for The New York Times, but is also a regular contributor to National Geographic, NPR, Vanity Fair, C-SPAN, and The Atlantic. Urbina is the author of The New York Times bestseller, “The Outlaw Ocean,” which is based on five years of reporting, much of it offshore, exploring lawlessness on the high seas. He has earned numerous awards for his work including a Pulitzer, a Polk, and an Emmy nomination. This reporting has been converted into films such as ‘Machine Gun Preacher’ starring Gerard Butler, ‘American Honey’ with Shia LaBeouf, and ‘Promised Land’ with Matt Damon. More recently, Leonardo DiCaprio and Netflix bought the rights to adapt The Outlaw Ocean into a feature film and a streaming docu-series.
