i-dle (formerly known as (G)I-DLE) is a South Korean girl group formed by Cube Entertainment. They debuted on May 2, 2018. The group’s line-up consists of five members: Soyeon, Miyeon, Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua. Originally, a six member group, Soojin departed from the group in August 2021. The group has consistently captured attention with their lyrics, which reflect feminist viewpoints and emphasize empowerment and confidence, and are also celebrated for being a “self-producing” idol group, challenging traditional stereotypes of female idols.

The group’s debut teasers started with Soyeon’s “Idle Song” which hinted at the name of the girl group. Their initial hot debut stage took place on M! Countdown on May 3, 2018 with “LATATA”, the title track from their first mini album, I am. With a highly successful debut, (G)I-DLE went on to win several rookie awards in 2018.

In August 2019 (G)I-DLE took part in the first season of Mnet’s reality show titled Queendom and released the song “Lion”, which was performed by the group during its final episode. It went on to receive a nomination for Best Pop Song at the prestigious Korean Music Awards.

In 2020, the group dropped their third mini album, I trust along with two versions of its title track, “Oh my god” sung in both Korean and English, while the original music video scored itself a a 2020 MTV VMA nomination.

In 2022, they released their first full-length album I NEVER DIE featuring the megahit “TOMBOY.” The group followed it up with I love featuring “Nxde” in the same year. In 2023, (G)I-DLE gained attention for their song “퀸카 (Queencard).” (G)I-DLE released their second studio album titled 2 in 2024. The pre-release single “Wife” once again gained attention for its lyrics. The B-side track “나는 아픈 건 딱 질색이니까 (Fate)” achieved a perfect all-kill on the Korean charts, making (G)I-DLE the first ever K-Pop girl group to achieve perfect all-kills with four consecutive comebacks.

On May 2, 2025, on their seventh anniversary, the quintet made headlines after announcing the change of their group name. This comes with their contract renewal with Cube Entertainment.
