Houligan A.K.A Houligan Wassa is the newest recording artist from the Wlatt Boyz, who are based on the northside of Jane. Houligan began making a name for himself on social media platforms after he previewed his first single titled “We Don’t Play”.

This preview showed that Houligan had a really good track for his debut. This snippet got shared thousands of times on Instagram, and it was clear that the feedback was positive. Not long after, Houligan posted a short clip of the music video for “We Don’t Play” on his Instagram story. However, many snippets got around social media, and the song was kind of ruined, because the duration of the record wasn’t long. So if there’s have two snippets of the song during two different points of the video that have a duration thirty seconds each, then you already lost half your record before even releasing completed work. Therefore, this can lead to fans being underwhelmed when they hear the full record. Another problem in the feedback I read, was that the video for “We Don’t Play” had bad quality and the directing seemed to lack energy. So as an independent artist you must make the decision to either hold off on the video, and invest in a higher quality production, or release a great track with a video you may regret using later on.

Houligan decided to cancel the release of the “We Don’t Play” video, so he can work on other higher quality productions like the music video for his debut track titled “Dead End”, featuring FM and Msav. His debut received great feedback on Reddit and Instagram, although some people thought he was off beat, but in my opinion that doesn’t justify to call his whole verse, bad. It’s clear he has a lot to learn from the process of making music. However, since he’s already coming from one of the most notorious neighbourhoods in Toronto (northside of Jane), where young, talented artists are known to excel and become successful; I have no doubt that we will see great things and the hottest records from Houligan during this next century.
