Highway 101 is a country music band formed in Los Angeles in 1986 by lead vocalist Paulette Carlson, guitarist Jack Daniels, bassist Curtis Stone and drummer Scott “Cactus” Moser. Today, Highway 101 is made up of lead vocalist Nikki Nelson; drummer Scott “Cactus” Moser; bassist Curtis Stone & electric guitarist Andy Gurley.
Bios:
- Nicole Yvonne “Nikki” Nelson was born January 3, 1969 in La Mesa, California to Eugene & Nancy Weston Nelson. She has two brothers, Tim & Aaron. Nikki is married to David Welcher, and she has two children, Casey Dylan Jarvis, born December 7, 1994, from a relationship with Dale Jarvis; and Cody Welcher, born August 17, 1999. Nikki and David live in Burns, TN but she lists her hometown as Topaz Lake, NV.
- Michael Scott “Cactus” Moser was born May 3, 1957 in Montrose, Colorado. He married Wynonna Judd on June 10, 2012 in Leiper’s Fork, TN. He is the father of Sunshine, born in 1979; Michael Cahl, born in 1990; & Wyatt, born in 1994. Besides drums, Cactus plays the guitar, bass and accordion. On August 8, 2012, he was in a motorcycle wreck. His left leg was torn off above the knee at the scene and had to be surgically removed.
- Curtis Anthony Snyder “Curtis Stone” was born April 3, 1950 in North Hollywood, California. He is the son of Cliffie Stone and his wife Dorothy. He has one sister, Linda and two brothers, Stephen & Jonathan.
- Michael Andrew “Andy” Gurley is the father of Candace & Samantha and is engaged to Nicole Zuefle. He lives in Nashville. As far as education goes, he attended Dyersburg High School in Dyersburg, TN and Lambuth University in Jackson, TN.
- Paulette Tenae Carlson was born October 11, 1953 in Minnesota to Gary Carlson. She married Randy Smith on November 4, 1989 in Red Wing, MN and has a daughter, Cali Gabriel Smith, who was born July 10, 1991 in Anchorage, Alaska. Paulette is the previous lead vocalist and is also a songwriter.
The group has won the Academy of Country Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year in 1988 & 1989; and Country Music Association Award for Vocal Group of the Year in 1988 & 1989.
Highway 101 is known for “Somewhere Tonight”, “Cry, Cry, Cry”, “(Do You Love Me) Just Say Yes”, & “Who’s Lonely Now”.
