Her was a French band consisting of childhood friends Victor Solf and late Simon Carpentier–who died at 27 on August 13, 2017 after years of cancer battle. Formed in April 2014, the duo was officially dissolved on October 4, 2018 with a post on their Instagram account explaining reasons to fans. The band symbolically performed one last time in Paris, on February 2, 2019. Victor Solf decided to pursue what they began together, and started a solo career.
As close friends, they claimed completing each other with their respective skills–as they told to Pigeons & Planes:
We’re trying to achieve 1+1=3, that third person being Her.
During their four years of activity, Her released three EP and a studio album, which was released after Simon passed away. Their recognizable sounds are often described as sophisticated, sensual and minimalist soul–as they mentioned Frank Ocean, Shuggie Otis or Aaron Neville as influence sources. Their lyrics often praise the woman beauty, charm and sensuality.
